NUREMBERG. Funkwerk Enterprise Communications GmbH (FEC), a Funkwerk AG company, acquires VarySys Technologies GmbH und Co. KG with effect from the beginning of the year. The Stuttgart-based company specialises in appliances for network security and produces PacketAlarm UTM, as well as IDS and IPS products. Expanding its product portfolio of IP access solutions, FEC will market the important Unified Threat Management (UTM) product line through its outlets under the name Funkwerk UTM. The first products from the Funkwerk UTM family will be available with expanded functionality and the FEC user interface as early as February. Both product lines, IDS (Intrusion Detection System) and IPS (Intrusion Prevention System), which are primarily deployed in medium-sized to large companies in high security environments, will be merchandised by the renamed subsidiary Funkwerk IP-Appliances GmbH.br>
The founders and former managing directors of VarySys Technologies, Thilo Schmid and Peter Schäfer are convinced: “The market for unified threat management systems is growing at quite a pace: The trend is away from isolated solutions and towards UTM as all-in-one gateway security appliances. Michael Marsanu, Chief Technology Officer at FEC, takes over as Managing Director of the subsidiary alongside his present position. He will advance the integration of the new product family into the FEC solutions portfolio.
